Friend of the victim: – If we hadn’t come, he would have killed her

They were young and passionately in love, but jealousy, infidelity and heated discussions after parties and trips to Gaden filled more and more.

He wanted to control her. He beat her. Again and again. This is what the young, female victim told about her ex-boyfriend of three years in the Court in Aalborg on Thursday.

The defendant, who pleaded not guilty, was far from agreeing with that interpretation.

According to the 27-year-old, he once lost his temper and hit his then girlfriend. According to him, most of her injuries were accidental.

At the Court in Aalborg, he was charged with four specific cases of serious violence and for hitting and kicking her, throwing her, spitting in her head and choking her at regular intervals over a two-year period. Something that still haunts her years later.

– I feel so unfairly treated. It was a power he wanted to have over me. He wanted to control me. I didn’t have to do anything, she said from the witness stand as tears rolled down her cheeks.

– It destroyed me.

Fractured eye socket and broken collarbone

According to the woman, the now 27-year-old man was violent towards her throughout almost their entire relationship from 2018 to 2020.

– He beat me, he pulled me around by the hair and kicked me in the back, she told about the first time it happened.

Several of the woman’s friends testified in court on Thursday, where one said that she and a friend stopped the violence one of the times.

– If we hadn’t come, he would have killed her. He told me that himself. I remember that because it runs around in my head, she said.

The prosecutor showed several pictures of the woman, where you could see injuries on her face and on her body, as well as various records from the doctor and hospital were presented as evidence.

While the two were dating, the woman had, among other things, had a fractured eye socket, a broken arm and a broken collarbone.

Afraid of the consequences

The 27-year-old’s defender argued that three of the four conditions are out of date, as they date back more than five years.

However, this would only be relevant if the court had chosen to judge according to the so-called mild violence clause and not the gross one that the prosecutor proposed.

At the same time, he asked several times why the victim only reported the violence to the police three years after it had taken place.

– I haven’t been ready before. I haven’t dared before. I was afraid of the consequences and afraid of how crazy he would go, she explained.

On Friday, a verdict was reached in the case, where the 27-year-old was sentenced to ten months’ unconditional imprisonment. When it came to the size of the punishment, the court laid down, among other things, emphasis on the fact that he has previously been convicted of violence.

Prosecutor Camilla Walsted was satisfied with the verdict, while the defendant chose to appeal on the spot.
