In the run-up to the international climate talks in Berlin, the Fridays for Future movement criticized the reduced attention paid to climate change due to crises such as the CoV pandemic and the Ukraine war. “These crises are constantly being played off once morest each other,” said Fridays for Future spokeswoman Linda Kastrup to the editorial network Germany (RND).
Sharp criticism of Scholz
It will “forget” how closely “these catastrophes are linked and how close the solutions are to each other”. Kastrup called on German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) to do more to protect the climate. Scholz “described himself as climate chancellor before the elections. So far, he has not lived up to these expectations in any way.”
The activist called on the chancellor to “set the bar high with much tightened climate targets for Germany” as part of the Petersberg climate dialogue.
Preparation of the next world climate conference
As part of the Petersberg Climate Dialogue, representatives from more than 40 countries are meeting in Berlin today to prepare for the next world climate conference in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt, at the end of the year. According to the federal government, the Berlin talks will focus on “issues of climate change adaptation, climate finance and how to deal with losses and damage”.
