Friborg International Film Festival (FIFF) 38th Edition Recap: Record Attendance and Future Great Chinese Author Honored

The 38th edition of the Friborg International Film Festival (FIFF) ends with record attendance. It also honors a “future great Chinese author”, according to the organizers, Chen Yanqi, who directed Day Tripper, Grand Prix du FIFF 2024.

With this film, five of the twelve feature films in the international competition were awarded prizes, the organizers indicated on Saturday at the end of the awards ceremony. Since Thursday, the FIFF has counted 48,000 entries, specifying that the historic bar of 55,000 will be easily exceeded if we add the parallel events and the online version which lasts another three weeks.

In addition to the Grand Prize for this “offbeat and absurd chronicle of everyday life” that is the Chinese film by Chen Yanqi, the winners on Saturday evening are presented as follows, indicated the organizers: presented as a world premiere, the Peruvian family dystopia Cuadrilátero by Daniel Rodríguez Risco receives the Special Jury Prize and that of the COMUNDO Youth Jury.

The Critics’ Jury presents its Critic’s Choice Award to Inshallah a Boy by Amjad Al Rasheed (Jordan), while the Ecumenical Jury awards the Colombian film La Suprema by Felipe Holguín Caro. As for the coveted Audience Award, it goes to the Bhutanese film The Monk and the Gun by Pawo Choyning Dorji. As for short films, it is the Iranian documentary Mrs. Iran’s Husband by Marjan Khosravi which won two prizes, add the organizers in a press release.
