French Team Shines in Fin Swimming at Mediterranean Beach Games: Two Medals Secured

2023-09-14 19:09:53

Thursday marked the debut of fin swimming, which will punctuate the end of these Mediterranean Beach Games. The French team took the opportunity to add two medals to its tally: silver in the mixed relay and bronze for Anas Verger. Volleyball and tennis also held great promise for the last two days on the Cretan sands.

Fin swimming: two medals to start

The most beautiful medals, for me, are the relays. Because we are all together, we represent France, we are not alone in our corner. In my eyes these are the most beautiful medals one can obtain. And it was good news for the author of this cry from the heart, Colas Zugmeyer, since he and his partners won a nice silver medal in the 4 x 100 m area. The Pays d’Aix swimming member ideally propelled his team towards this podium which was the objective , he continues, passing the baton to Oriane Robisson in third position. The latter then allowed his team to gain a place by taking the measure of the Italian competitor, before Hugo Meyer then Anas Verger secured this silver medal, behind the untouchable Greeks, authors of a Mediterranean record in 23319. The Blues are 220 ( 23539).

Individually, Anas Verger was the most prominent Frenchwoman on this first day of testing. It was she who, from the first race, the 50 m apne, opened the counter for the French team, third in the final (1741, 52 from the Greek winner Vasileia Tsigkoia), and two ranks ahead of Kalliste Fourton Bellini (1778). Almost its own surprise: To tell the truth, I didn’t think I would win a medal in this race, she explained upon arrival. I’m happy, the competition started well. Especially since the feeling in the water was mixed. This bodes well for the future and the races to come.

The recent European 100m immersion champion even came close to adding a third medal to her collection of the day, but she collapsed in the second part of the 200m surface: while she was in the lead halfway through, and once more third in the 150 m, the centimes swung the wrong way at the finish for bronze (13427, eight centimes from the podium).

Hugo Meyer might also have been the architect of this third medal. Third best time in the morning heats, this was also his place in the final before the sanction fell for too long a sink, leading to his disqualification. Colas Zugmeyer, sixth, is thus the best Frenchman in the final.

Many other places of honor marked this day for the tricolors, represented in each of the eight finals of the day: fourth place for Louise Lefebvre on 200 m two-fins, fifth for Vincent Prudhomme on 400 m surface, fifth and sixth respectively for Tho De Zaldivar and Charles Salsano in the 100m twin-fin, and sixth for Emilie Fatras in the 50m twin-fin.

Beach tennis: Barrau and Irigaray will play for bronze

There will be no title for Lola Barrau and Tho Irigaray in mixed proof. The French pair was defeated by the Italian n1 in the table, Giulia Gasparri and Doriano Beccaccioli (6/2 6/3). There remains a bronze medal to try to conquer on Friday, once morest the Spaniards Eva Fernandez Palos and Antonio Miguel Ramos Viera.

The men’s and women’s draws also began this Thursday, and the tandems Tho Irigaray / Paul Gotarda, facing the San Marinais Galli / Zafferani (6/2 6/3), and Lola Barrau / Mar Bray, ruthless with the locals Anastasia Gioldasi and Vasiliki Sakka (6/0 6/0), joined their compatriots Nicolas Gianotti / Mathieu Gugano in the quarter-finals, and Mathilde and Marie-Eve Hoarau, who will enter the fray at this stage of the tournament thanks to their seeded status (n1 for boys, n4 for Hoarau sisters).

Beach volleyball: 3 pairs in quarters!

The two female pairs entered in volleyball will see the quarter-finals on Friday. Aline Chamereau and Clémence Vieira on one side, Elsa Descamps and Romane Sobezalz on the other, won their two matches of the day, finishing in first position in their respective groups.

They were imitated on the boys’ side by Calvin and Quincy Ay, also first in the groups (two matches, two victories) and qualified for the quarter-finals. The adventure is over, however, for Tom Altwies and Elouan Chouikh-Barbez, beaten at the last minute in a decisive quarter-final match by the Croatians Skorin / Zelenika (1-2, 21-14, 23-25, 13-15).
