French Rookies Bilal Coulibaly and Ousmane Dieng Shine in Summer League Match: Wizards vs. OKC

For this new Summer League evening in Vegas, Bilal Coulibaly and Ousmane Dieng met during the meeting between Washington and OKC. And it was the Wizards who won thanks to – in particular – a good performance from their rookie!

It took them a while to get back into the game. A full half-time even. Clumsy Coulibaly and discreet Dieng, we thought our French were going to leave us hungry for this July 14th. At the break, they had respectively scored only 3 and 5 points without much shooting success. It was on returning from the locker room that our Frenchies remembered what day it was and raised their level of play..

More skilful and precise on his drives, Bilal continued to cause fouls and went for points on the free throw line. He then drew successfully from afar, before causing a foul in transition and scoring on a layup. The match of pick 7 of the 2023 Draft thus began, as did that of his compatriot. At the same time, Ousmane Dieng sent two big 3-point shots, including a very difficult stepback at the end of possession, while distributing around him. But it was Coulibaly who had the last word in this third quarter by dropping a big counter – you’re getting used to it – and allowing his team to lead by 8 points.

Ousmane Dieng’s confidence is through the roof right now.

In the fourth quarter, Bilal continued his scoring work in penetration. By his presence on both sides of the field he sealed the victory for the Wizards, while in control at the end of the match. He finished the game with 17 points (including 8 free throws), 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks. For his part, Ousmane Dieng took advantage of the reduced intensity at the end of the match to boost his stats from the throwing line, bringing his total to 17 points (including a 3/7 from afar) accompanied by 5 rebounds and 5 assists. In short, two great performances for our Frenchies who make a new good copy on the Vegas side. A good omen for the future!

Bilal Coulibaly showed major flashes for the Wizards today:

But the French are not the only ones to have shone. Some of their teammates have also been solid, starting with Johnny Davis. Author of 22 points over 50% shooting, the Wizards sophomore showed great ease in scoring and recalled why he was a lottery pick last year. On the side of Washington, we will also remember the good performance of Dejan Vasiljevic, author of a 4/5 to 3 points in just over 10 minutes. Opposite, it was Jared Butler who carried the OKC attack with 22 points and 4 assists to 8/14 in shooting including 4/8 from afar. The pick 10 of the last Draft, Cason Wallace, meanwhile stood out more for his defense, already quite impressive, than for his offensive qualities.

The Wizards therefore won 105-89 once morest the Thunder thanks to a very prominent Coulibaly – Davis duo. Despite a good performance, and in the absence of Chet Holmgren in particular, Ousmane Dieng failed to win his team.
