“Lebanon Debate”

Despite the tensions on the southern front and the expansion of military operations, French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to visit Lebanon next week, specifically the southern Lebanese region, to visit the French force operating within UNIFIL.

What will this visit bring? Does Macron have anything new up his sleeve? Will he meet Lebanese officials?!

In this context, political analyst Ali Hamadeh pointed out that “the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Lebanon will, in principle, take place next December 21, that is, before Christmas, but the date has not yet been officially and definitively set.”

In an interview with Lebanon Debate, Hamadeh said: “President Macron hopes that he will come with an agreement to reduce tension in the south, especially since he will visit southern Lebanon and the French unit working in the UNIFIL forces.”

He stressed that “Macron has not yet set any dates for meetings with Lebanese officials, but it is expected that he will have some meetings, but the program has not been determined, and no official body has been informed of the details of the visit.”

He considered that “this visit is a traditional visit that President Macron usually makes every year to visit one of the units of the French army operating abroad. Sometimes it is the units operating in Lebanon within the framework of UNIFIL, and other times it is to combat units in the Sahel region in Africa or elsewhere.”

Hamadeh concluded by saying: “This is a tradition that French presidents have been doing for decades, before Christmas or around Christmas. This is a presidential tradition.”
