French Police Internal Control Report: Analysis of Deaths, Injuries, and Use of Force

“19 deaths are linked to the use of individual weapons, 3 deaths are linked to the use of long weapons, 6 deaths are linked to the state of health and addictions from which the deceased person suffered , 3 deaths were the direct result of the behavior of the deceased, and 7 deaths were the consequence of a traffic accident”, details the internal control body of the French police in its report relayed by the press.

Regarding the injured, the IPGN indicates that 48% of injuries occurred without the use of a weapon, while 40% of injuries involve the use of a weapon.

“The IGPN received 1,065 judicial investigations in 2022, compared to 1,093 investigations in 2021, 1,101 in 2020 and 1,460 in 2019,” the same source further specifies.

The use of force occurs in 54% of cases (i.e. 272 ​​referrals) during an arrest or similar operation, details the IGPN, noting that this figure is clearly increasing since it represented 37 % of allegations in 2021.

At the call of several associations, unions and political parties, 80 demonstrations are planned for Saturday throughout France to denounce “police violence” and “systemic racism”, reports the press.
