Black French footballers Kingsley Coman, Aurélien Tchouameni and Randal Colo Muani received racist comments on social media following losing the World Cup final once morest Argentina. informs Athletic.
Coman and Tchouameni missed the penalty shoot-out, causing the French team to conceded with a score of 2:4 in the series. Kolo Muani failed to convert a scoring chance at the very end of extra time.
Among the offensive comments were, in particular, emoji with a monkey and a banana.
Tchuameni restricted comments on Instagram posts (owned by Meta Platforms, the Tverskoy Court of Moscow recognized the company as extremist and banned its activities), and Kolo Muani disabled comments.
A spokesman for the company that owns the social network told Athletic that racist comments have been removed and that players will be helped to set up some features that will allow them to filter such messages.
After the Euro 2020 final, England players Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka received racist slurs. All three also missed their shots in the penalty shoot-out, giving the victory to Italy.
In March, one of the fans who insulted Rashford on Twitter, 19-year-old Justin Lee Price, sentenced to six weeks in prison.
