The French gymnastics team was reassured a few days before the world championships (organized in Antwerp from September 30 to October 8), counting for Olympic qualifications. Martinican Mélanie De Jesus Dos Santos had the luxury of winning two gold medals, while Reunionese Marine Boyer confirmed her title from last year. In total, the Blues won seven medals.

This weekend (September 16 and 17), the French Open Gymnastics had a taste of the 2024 Olympic Games. Organized at the AccorArena in Paris, the site which will host the Olympic events of the discipline in a little less than a year , the gymnasts were able to test the waters. At this little game, the Martinican Mélanie De Jesus Dos Santos took note, and illustrated herself in a very beautiful way. Initially competing in the bar events, she won by obtaining the final score of 14.700. A remarkable performance, achieved just ahead of the reigning world champion, the Brazilian Rebeca Andrade credited with a score of 14.600.

A few hours later, the four-time European champion returned to the field to win this time on the ground. After a period of mastery and technique, the 23-year-old from Martinique collected a score of 13.650. “This bodes well for the world championships, now all we have to do is let’s go for Olympic qualification.” she said a few minutes following her second success at AFP.

Like last year, Reunion Islander Marine Boyer did not miss her meeting. Competed on the balance beam for her last French Open, she won the gold medal with a score of 13,500 points. “It gives me confidence. It was only a preparation for the Olympic qualifications with the team which remains the priority objective. […] I was expected. It’s hard to be expected and do your job. That’s what I did and I’m very happy.”she declared at a press conference following her performance.

The Guadeloupean Cameron-Lie Bernard, for his part, won the bronze medal on the parallel bars. With these successes, the Ultramarines are preparing in the best possible way in this pivotal year before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
