The government is seriously considering lowering the ecological bonus for the purchase of an electric vehicle for the wealthiest, franceinfo learned this Wednesday from a source close to the matter, confirming information from Echos. This measure, which must apply on January 1, will concern the 40% of the richest French people, who will see their bonus increase from 5,000 to 4,000 for the purchase of a new electric vehicle.

Only the most modest households will retain a bonus of up to 7,000 euros. On the other hand, the bonus of 1,000 euros, planned today for the purchase of a used electric vehicle, has a good chance of being eliminated.

With a budget of 1.5 billion euros intended for the ecological bonus for 2024, down compared to 2023, the government wants to subsidize the purchase of a greater number of electric cars, but at the same time reduce the envelope intended for each of them and reserve this public aid exclusively for new vehicles manufactured in Europe. All these measures must now be confirmed by decree in the coming days.
