“Massively” imported meat

This action comes as the Sainte-Catherine agricultural fair is being held on Saturday in Vesoul. Around fifty cattle will be auctioned to be sold to butchers, caterers or the main players in mass distribution in the department.

According to the federation, fast food chains “massively import meat of foreign origin”, for around 50%, to make their hamburgers. And “they are champions at “franchising” hamburgers with one-off operations, particularly with the slice of cheese on the steak”where the AOP Cantal or Gruyère is mentioned, “but forgetting to mention the origin of the steak”.

Burger King France responds

“The increase in beef imports pointed out by the FDSEA is not a reality at Burger King France, whose supply volumes in France are increasing from year to year”for his part indicated to AFP the brand, which aims “60% of beef and chicken supplies from France in 2024”.

In the last quarter of 2023, Burger King France “increased the supply of French meat by 25% compared to the average for the year, despite the inflationary context”added the company, which ensures that 100% of its beef is European and half French, and 100% French in its “Masters” range.

Asked by AFP, the McDonald’s France press service did not immediately respond.

Across France, the FDSEA and Young Farmers are simultaneously organizing actions in front of the prefectures to demand long-term perspectives from the government for their profession in crisis.

They have, in several departments, returned road signs since the beginning of the week to denounce agriculture which “walk on your head”.
