Invited by Fabrice Grosfilley on Bel RTL, the president of the PS, Paul Magnette, reacted to Emmanuel Macron’s victory in the French presidential elections.
The re-election of Emmanuel Macron is a “relief” for the president of the Socialist Party, Paul Magnette. Invited to 7:50 am on Bel RTL, he affirmed that a victory for Marine Le Pen would be a “tragedy“, and that it was necessary to block it, although it had “no affinity for Emmanuel Macron”. According to him, the outgoing president was “the president of the rich, who aggravated the social fractures in France and who was often very contemptuous and arrogant towards the population“.
For Paul Magnette, Emmanuel Macron should now be listening “of this France which is suffering, of all these French people who cannot make ends meet and those who aspire to a much more ambitious ecological transition“, he says. The socialist however says he is skeptical, because “five years ago he should have done it too“, referring to the number of French people who had elected him to block the far right, “but he didn’t listen to them at all“, he laments.
For whom would Paul Magnette have voted?
Asked by Fabrice Grosfilley regarding his voting intentions if he had been in France, Paul Magnette affirmed that he would vote “at the last minute“for Jean-Luc Mélenchon, even if he had”lots of reservations“. The president of the PS believes that “its ecological and social program is pretty much exactly the same as the Socialist Party“. Paul Magnette deplores all the same “his international policy, the fact that he has always refused to condemn China and the genocide of the Uyghurs” or “his ambiguity on the attitude vis-à-vis Putin“There is no reason, according to him, to compare Jean-Luc Mélenchon with the PTB, because”he is not a communist“.
The French Socialist Party had disastrous results in these elections. Its candidate, Anne Hidalgo collected only 1.7% of the votes. However, Paul Magnette is not worried regarding his own party because, according to him “the situation is totally different“.
