Victor Wembanyama and Bilal Coulibaly will both be on the floor for the Rising Stars Challenge which will be held like every year on the sidelines of the All Star Game. This is the first time that two French people have been selected in the same year for this gala match.
The two make a pair. The French Victor Wembanyama and Bilal Coulibaly were both selected by the NBA for its Rising Stars Challenge, a first in the history of French basketball. Formerly known as the Rookie Game, this gala match traditionally pits teams made up of the best rookies, sophomores (second year players) but also the best young people from the G-League, the NBA’s development league. Like every year, this match will take place during the All Star weekend, which will be held in Indianapolis from February 16 to 18.
A knockout tournament
The two friends, teammates last year in the jersey of the Metropolitans 92 of Boulogne-Levallois, are however not guaranteed to be aligned in the same team. Indeed, a mini-draft will take place on February 6 during which the rookies and sophomores will be divided into three teams, the fourth being composed entirely of young G-League hopefuls. These four teams will then face each other during the All Star weekend, on February 16, in a mini-tournament with direct elimination.
If Victor Wembanyama has already confirmed his participation in the Skills Challenge, a competition which rewards the most skilled players in handling the ball, there still remains a big question mark as this All Star weekend approaches: will- Is he able to be chosen by the coaches to participate in the “real” all-star game, the All Star Game on Sunday evening? If the matter seems complicated due to the poor collective results of his team (10v 37d), hope remains on the basis of his impressive individual statistics for a rookie. Answer this Thursday.
