The French writer Frédéric Beigbeder was taken into police custody in his home town of Pau in the southwest of the country. The 58-year-old will be questioned as part of a preliminary investigation, the public prosecutor’s office confirmed on Tuesday. Nothing was initially known regarding the content of the investigation. However, the public prosecutor’s office explained that it was not regarding drug offenses.

Beigbeder, whose novels “Thirty-nine Ninety” and “Oona and Salinger” are also known in Austria, was previously noticed as a cocaine user. Two years ago he publicly declared that he had “quit cocaine.” It’s a “drug for old philistines”; he only writes sober and on an empty stomach.
