Following the visit to Paris and Normandy by a delegation of six members of the House of Councilors of the Kingdom of Morocco, Mr. Christian CAMBON (Les Républicains – Val-de-Marne), president of the friendship group France-Morocco, and his counterpart, Mr. Mohammed ZIDOUH (Istiqlalien Group of Unity and Egalitarianism), president of the Morocco-France friendship group, renewed their commitment to strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two assemblies.

The delegation was welcomed to the Senate by President Gérard LARCHER, who stressed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and cooperation with Morocco, “reliable partner working for the stability of the Sahelo-Saharan region”. After a meeting with the French senators of the friendship group and an official greeting during the public session, the delegation spoke with Mr. Olivier BECHT, Minister Delegate to Mrs. Catherine COLONNA, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, in charge of Foreign Trade, Attractiveness and French people living abroad. The latter mentioned the Minister’s current trip to Rabat, which resulted in the announcement of the lifting of visa restrictions for Moroccans. The presidents of the two friendship groups welcomed this long-awaited decision.

The opportunities for development and economic partnership between the two countries were at the center of the exchanges organized with the Medef, a few days following the adoption by the Moroccan parliament of a framework law relating to the investment charter. The Moroccan delegation highlighted the great progress made by Morocco in terms of energy transition, a theme that was at the heart of the visit to the EDF Paris-Saclay Research and Development Center.

The visit to the shipyards of Cherbourg made it possible to discover the site of Naval Group, an international player in naval defence, and to discuss the potentialities of cooperation in the field of defence. Finally, the two friendship group presidents took part in a flame rekindling ceremony under the Arc de Triomphe, thus paying tribute to the friendship that has linked the two countries throughout history.

The delegation was made up of Ms. Hind GHAZZALI (National Rally of Independents Group), Mr. Khammar MRABIT (President of the Authenticity and Modernity Group), Mr. Youssef ALAOUI (President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises Group), Mr. Nabil ELYAZIDI ( Haraka Group) and Mr. Aziz MOKANNEF (Socialist Group).
