As part of the release of his autobiography, former halfpipe ski champion Kevin Rolland (34) reveals in an interview with Le Parisien the mistreatment he suffered from a coach during his adolescence.

Figure of world halfpipe skiing, Olympic bronze medalist in 2014 in Sochi, standard bearer of the French delegation during the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games, came very close to death while attempting a world record in quarterpipe jump…, Kevin Rolland has had a busy career. And that’s good, he tells everything in his autobiography, “No time for regrets”, published by Hugo Sport. As part of the promotion of his book, the 34-year-old freestyler, retired since March, returned to a difficult period in his life, the one where he was mistreated by his trainer as a teenager. “It started when I was 12, at the La Plagne sports club. With this famous coach, Guillaume, who didn’t want me to become a skier…, Rolland begins. With a little digging, it all came back to me. I have absolute hatred for what this person did to me. It’s a period regarding which I have forgotten nothing but which did not leave a big scar because, precisely, I always looked forward. While making the book, I gathered my memories (he details several scenes in detail, such as a punch in the quadriceps just before a race, a hundred push-ups in the middle of the night despite a cast, slaps, a torn chain, etc., specifies The Parisian). And today, in addition to being a father (he has two children aged 4 and 2, editor’s note), I realized the seriousness of the facts. It was a wake-up call. I was like, “It’s true, this guy really did this to me.” » »

Rolland: “I have always loved coaching”

Kevin Rolland, of whom those close to him were aware “without knowing all the details”, now says he is ready to talk regarding his experience to help young people who would endure the same suffering. Moreover, the native of Bourg-St-Maurice sees himself becoming a coach. “I have always loved coaching. I like to transmit my passion. Today, I don’t see myself doing this 365 days a year but I would share my experience with great pleasure. On the technical side, how to do a double cork, etc., but above all talk regarding my ups and downs, how I managed to get back up…” A very precious word.
