Freeski and snowboard: Mathilde Gremaud 2nd at the Big Air at Copper Mountain
The Fribourgeoise performed well in Colorado. Geneva’s Sarah Höfflin finished 4th. In Snowboard, Jan Scherrer took 2nd place in the Half-pipe.
Mathilde Gremaud took second place in the World Cup Big Air on Friday in Copper Mountain, USA. The 22-year-old Fribourgeoise managed two explosive runs which were scored 88.00 and 84.00 on her first and last jump.
With this second place, the bronze medalist at the last Beijing Olympics joins the French Tess Ledeux, only sixth yesterday, at the top of the World Cup standings, with 140 points.
In third place in this ranking, we find the Canadian Megan Oldham, who won yesterday in Colorado (132 points).
The other Swiss entered in the final, Sarah Höfflin, was ranked fourth. The 31-year-old from Geneva had a great first run with a score of 84.50, but she mightn’t do better than 79.50 in the next two runs. Without points during the first event in Chur, she is 9th in the general classification (50 points).
For men, no Switzerland in the final. Andri Ragettli, the best of them, only finished 16th in qualifying. It was the Norwegian Birk Ruud who won. Already a winner in Chur, he dominates the general classification with 200 points. Ragettli is seventh (65 points).
Jan Scherrer starts well
Also at Copper Mountain, Jan Scherrer took second place on Friday in the first half-pipe World Cup competition of the season. The 28-year-old St. Gallen had two fantastic opening runs that saw him settle into second place with marks of 94.25 and 96.25. However, it was not enough to beat Australian Scotty James who posted an incredible run of 99.00 on his second pass. Among the women, without a Swiss in the final, it was the Spaniard Queralt Castellet who won.
