Freelancer Tax Laws on the Verge of Transformation in 2024

Kyriakos Mitsotakis responded to Eleftherostypos.gr saying: “We made an intervention for self-employed professionals that caused reactions and it concerns imputed income. We will make some point corrections that I announced yesterday. Few practitioners ultimately chose to challenge the tax burden arising from the imputed income. We will make some improvements but the expectation of the freelancer cannot be to earn as much as a minimum wage employee. Everyone should be taxed on their real income, but we’re not there yet. But we said that we will make point corrections which I announced yesterday especially regarding the settlements of up to 1,500 inhabitants, a measure that supports the Greek countryside”.

We remind you that yesterday Saturday 7/9 during the opening of the 88th TIF, the Prime Minister announced the changes announced by the government to the minimum taxable income of the self-employed, an issue that had raised a lot of discussion in the past.

These changes, after all, do not concern a horizontal reduction of the amount but a targeted intervention with geographical criteria. It concerns the expansion of an already valid provision, that of reducing the amount of the minimum taxable income by half.

Until now, this concerned towns and villages up to 500 people. Now the limit is tripled, reaching 1,500 people. It is recalled that the minimum taxable income of the self-employed is calculated on a case-by-case basis based on the objective living expenses and the expenses of acquiring assets of the taxpayer and his dependents.
