Registration for 14 to 20 year olds is possible until the first plenary session on November 15th

Vienna (OTS) Over 300 children and young people between the ages of 5 and 20 took part in the Vienna Children and Youth Parliament last year. This year there are still free places for the youth parliament.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE YOUTH PARLIAMENT?

The Vienna Youth Parliament meets on three sessions between November 2023 and March 2024. The registered young people meet in the ballroom of the town hall to discuss important topics from co-determination to climate protection or urban planning and get to know the city’s politicians.

At the 1. Plenum The young people get to know the 8 topics of the committees and the other delegates (in this case young people). They are supported by professional trainers from youth work. They also choose which committee they want to join:

  • Education & Inclusion (Christoph Wiederkehr)
  • Having a say & working together (Christoph Wiederkehr)
  • Women & Housing (Katrin Gaál)
  • Social affairs, health and sport (Peter Hacker)
  • Public transport & work (Peter Hanke)
  • Urban Planning & Mobility (Ulli Sima)
  • Climate & Parks (Jürgen Czernohorszky)
  • Culture & Leisure (Veronica Kaup-Hasler)

At the 2. Plenum The young people develop individual statements and demands in their committees. These will then be at 3. Plenum handed over to the city councilors in the form of written, prepared statements. They also have the opportunity to talk to city politicians regarding their ideas and demands.

The Children’s Parliament runs parallel to the Youth Parliament on different dates – but in a similar style. The only difference: They also have a committee on the topic of playgrounds. The last appointment takes place together with the young people. However, the discussions with city politicians are kept separate.
