Free photo storage to end next year

Free photo storage to end next year

The company has announced the end of a major feature for users using Google Photos.

Starting June 1, 2021, Google Photos is changing the storage policy for free accounts for photos, which users won’t like at all.

Until now, storage of data uploaded to Google Photos is free, but starting next year, users will have to subscribe to Google One for more data.

Now with a Google account, 15 GB of online storage is provided for Gmail, Drive, etc., which stores emails and files.‎

But from June 1, 2021, docs, sheets, slides, as well as photos and videos uploaded to Google Photos will also become part of the same storage.

And this is really a big blow for users as right now unlimited photos and videos can be stored in Google Photos for free (photos must be 16 megapixels and videos must be HD).

But starting next year, each new photo or video will count towards the free 15GB storage space.

Needless to say, with the amount of videos and photos people take these days, this free storage won’t last long.

According to Google, 8 percent of its users can take at least 3 years to fill up 15 GB of storage, but 20 percent can fill it in much less time.

The good news is that photos and videos uploaded to Google Photos before June 1, 2021 will not count towards the 15GB of storage.

Google has also announced that if a user hasn’t used a Gmail, Drive or Photos account for 2 years, the company can delete the content there.

According to Google, the aim of ending this free service is to meet the growing demand while providing the best storage experience for everyone.
