Free is now offering its fiber offers to more than 200,000 homes served by the RIP Gironde Haut Méga.
This is the first formalization of the year 2022, and not the least. After a long period of negotiations and an agreement found last summer, Free announced on May 10 that it would market its fiber offerings on the Gironde Haut Méga public initiative network. In order to mark the occasion, Maxime Lombardini, vice-president of the parent company of Free is present this morning in Canéjan alongside Jean-Luc Gleyze, president of the department of Gironde, for a speech around this arrival.
Operated by Orange, this RIP now covers more than 250,000 connectable sockets out of the 500,000 it will have by 2025. As of today, Xavier Niel’s operator is offering its Freebox fiber optic offers more than 200,000 housing units spread over 300 municipalities. Gironde Haut-Méga builds more than 8,000 sockets every month, and 425 km of optical fiber, i.e. 38,000 kilometers of network by 2025.
“Eventually, we will be present on all the sockets deployed by Gironde Haut Méga. In the private zone, in this department, the Fiber Free offers are also already available on all the housing deployed in the Bordeaux Métropole conurbation and in the city of Libourne, i.e. 508,000 housing units”. says Free.
The ISP thus further illustrates its desire to be present on the networks deployed at the initiative of local authorities. In 2022, Free plans to launch its offers on 25 new RIPs. In the absence of formalizations, the operator is currently increasing the pre-openings, in particular on the networks operated by Xp Fiber from SFR.
