Another attempt to get out of prison in order to be able to take the oath as a member of the European Parliament of New Democracy was filed by Freddy Beleris in the Albanian justice system. In particular, according to himara, the North Epirus politician filed a request for early parole in the Court of First Instance of Fieri.
According to Albanian law, this is a measure entitled to those who have served 2/3 of their sentence and are of good behavior during their detention (Article 64 of the Criminal Code and Article 38 of Law 79/2020). It is worth noting that the average consideration of requests of this nature is from 20 to 30 days.
Regarding the second request, it was submitted to the Supreme Court of Cassation for a suspension of the execution of the sentence until the appeal against the decision of the Court of Appeal is examined. This request is usually processed within 3-5 days.
We remind you that if these two requests are not met, Mr. Beleris will remain in prison until October, as the decision of the Tirana Court of Appeal upheld the first-instance decision for two years in prison.
