SAN DIEGO — Freddie Freeman rocked a three-run home run, while Amed Rosario and Mookie Betts also homered as the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers defeated San Diego 8 -2, in a bitter debut for Rich Hill with the Padres.
Lance Lynn (8-9) had an impressive second start for the Dodgers, who beat the Padres for the seventh time in nine games this season.
Lynn allowed an undisputed home run to Gary Sanchez, but was able to silence an inconsistent Padres offense that came off an 8-3 loss Saturday. The 36-year-old Lynn, acquired in a trade from the Chicago White Sox on July 28, held the Padres to one run and four hits while striking out six and walking two over six innings.
Hill (7-11), a 43-year-old veteran acquired Tuesday from Pittsburgh along with Ji Man Choi, lasted just three innings in his shortest start of the season. He allowed six runs and four hits.
It was his 23rd home run for Freeman, and his 30th for Betts.
For the Dodgers, Puerto Rican Enrique Hernández 5-3, with one RBI and one scored. Dominican Amed Rosario 3-1 with two RBIs and one run scored. Venezuelans David Peralta 2-1 with a run scored; and Miguel Rojas 5-1 with a run scored.
For the Pirates, Dominican Gary Sánchez went 4-2 with an RBI and a run scored.
