Franz Posch: “Today there are no more authorities”

Franz Posch has been presenting the folk music program “Mei liabste Weis” for almost 35 years. He doesn’t like to talk at all. But when he sets his mind to something, he sees it through, says the former teacher. He tells the “Presse am Sonntag” why his students “ate out of his hand”, why Andreas Gabalier is so successful and why he admires Peter Rapp.

Thank you for having this conversation with me. You describe yourself as someone who doesn’t particularly like to talk.

Franz Posch: I don’t really like talking at all. Not at all. When I perform with my group, the Inbrügglers, my colleagues keep asking me: “Say something to the people!” But I don’t like it. I’m not a big talker, I prefer to play. The only time I have no choice but to talk is on my TV show “Mei liabste Weis”. At the time, they forced me to do it.

Who compelled you?

When Vienna said that we might do the show one day, the director said ORF Tirol, with whom I’ve always made folk music together, to me: “But you have to talk. I can’t do that and I don’t like it either.” “Well done,” I thought to myself. In any case, the ORF then sent me to Peter Rapp for a quick-boiling course. And he gave me a lot of courage: “Don’t let yourself be bent. Stay as you are”, that was his main message. So this is a dream guy and a full professional in his profession. Shortly before the first show he called me and said that he would watch me and would keep his fingers crossed. I will never forget him.
