After his lavish 70th birthday party with lots of celebrities from sports, business and politics a week ago, Franz Klemm has now entered another “lap of honor” in his diary. On February 9, 2024, Austria’s ski emperor will be one of the star guests at the gala night of sports staged by OÖNachrichten and LIVA in Linz’s Brucknerhaus. “Have fun and celebrate smartly” – this motto, which was given by Klemm on the occasion of his birthday party, will also apply to the traditional athletes’ gala, which is once once more supported by Oberbank as the main sponsor.
For Klemm, who immortalized himself in local sports history with his home Olympic downhill victory on the Patscherkofel in 1976, the Brucknerhaus is not new territory. The Carinthian has already been a guest at the OÖN gala several times, which incidentally premiered a year before his historic Olympic victory. Bracket was last in the limelight on stage at the Brucknerhaus in 2008 – back then together with Toni Sailer. It was the last meeting of the two Austrian ski legends; Sailer died of cancer a year later.
Olympics and European Football Championships
In addition to Franz Bracke’s lap of honor, the sports talks at the OÖN gala will focus on two major events in 2024: the Summer Olympics in Paris and of course the European Football Championship in Germany, where Austria’s national team, among others, competed in the preliminary round will hit France and the Netherlands. Ö3 micro man Tom Walek and Silvia Schneider will be the moderation duo bringing local Olympic hopefuls and celebrities from the “Rundlederwelt” onto the stage. There will be two experienced TV experts at the ball, including ex-internationals Florian Klein (Servus TV) and Didi Hamann (Sky). Speaking of TV experts: Gala regular and ORF commentator Andreas Goldberger won’t miss the opportunity to dance at the Brucknerhaus in Linz on February 9th.
Sport and lots of music
In addition to sport, (dance) music is the focus of the gala night on February 9th in the Brucknerhaus. The midnight performance will be set to music by chart-topper Lemo (“Himmel über Wien”, “Tu es”), and the cult Austropop cover band “Hoamspü” will be heating up the middle hall. There is a song contest participant at the opening
Nathan Trent in action.
