Frankfurt housing shortage: Apartments remain expensive

Jeveryone has their own view of the housing market. Conny Petzold, office manager of the tenants help tenants association, complains, for example, that the non-profit Nassauische Heimstätte wants to increase rents by 100 or 120 euros following the renovation of apartments in the Adolf Miersch housing estate in Niederrad. Two euros more per square meter – for many residents, this is not possible, she criticized on Thursday evening at the “Frankfurt General Citizens’ Talks”. She had the right contact person standing next to her, because Tarek Al-Wazir (Die Grünen) is not only Hessian Minister for Housing, but also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Nassauische Heimstätte. He pointed out that one had to open the offsetting calculation – the renovation would lead to lower heating costs, a huge advantage, especially in times of rising energy prices. In addition, the homestead is generally cautious when it comes to rent increases.

You will have to put it on resubmission – how high the burden or relief in the settlement from the 1950s will only be seen later. In general, Petzold showed a lot of sympathy for non-profit housing companies because they had a price-dampening effect, but criticized the fact that the municipal ABG did not only build social housing; an initiative wants to force them to do so with the “Frankfurter Mietentscheid”.
