At 78 years old, Gérard Adam is undoubtedly, among the French-speaking Belgian publishers of modest size, the one with the most experience in export. If the boss of MEO Éditions were to hand over control – which he is actively preparing – he would not have to worry regarding the next generation: these last five days, at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2023 (undoubtedly the biggest fair for the purchase and sale of editorial rights), no less than 21 small Belgian publishers were in turn on the international offensive, in the collective stand set up by Wallonie-Bruxelles international (WBI). A mobilization that has become the new norm. These editors, often very young, were there to try their luck, do half-hour interviews with selected editors from all over the world, multiply the numbers, show their expertise, their achievements and – who knows?
