Los Angeles: R&B star Frank Ocean has canceled a second concert that he was scheduled to perform this weekend at the Coachella festival in California, due to a leg injury, according to his agent, following a first concert a few days ago that sparked much criticism.

The singer, who has not performed any concerts since 2017, suffered an injury last week, according to what his agent announced on Wednesday.

After the artist’s fans waited for him for a long time, Frank Ocean’s singing performance, Sunday, at the festival that takes place during two consecutive weekends in the California desert, was launched an hour later than scheduled, and the singer’s performance was subject to much criticism from the audience and the music press.

“After he injured his knee at the festival site during the week before the first weekend … Frank Ocean might not perform the originally scheduled concert, but he insisted on doing so, and within 72 hours, the concert was modified as necessary,” the singer’s agent told AFP. .

The agent pointed out that the singer suffers from “two fractures and a sprain in the left leg,” and he preferred to cancel his next concert, scheduled for Sunday at the end of the Coachella Festival, “due to a doctor’s opinion.”

During the first batch of concerts on the first weekend, Frank Ocean turned his back on the crowd to perform his song “Novacaine”, taking extended breaks during the performance. Also, the design of the scenic elements during the party, which was modified in the last moments, caused restlessness among the attendees.

The audience also criticized the sudden end of the party. After the long delay, the singer attributed, in brief words, the end of his concert to the “curfew” imposed by the festival on Sunday.

Variety magazine described the party as “disorganized” and “almost a disaster,” noting that the show “will likely remain one of the most controversial in Coachella history.”

Frank Ocean, in a statement published by his agent on Wednesday, commented on these criticisms, saying that the party “was chaotic. There is some beauty in chaos.” “It was not what I wanted to present, but I was glad to be there and I will see you once more soon,” he added.

Variety reported that the rock band Blink-182 may replace the singer at the closing of the Coachella festival on Sunday.

The festival’s organizers did not immediately respond to AFP’s calls.
