Francophone culture returns to Kaunas with spring – more than 20 events

March 1 – April 1 Kaunas will invite you to discover francophone culture through the connections between creativity, culture and politics. The rich program of events includes over twenty dedicated events.

“Francophonie month provides an opportunity to get to know countries thousands of kilometers away and to see how multilayered and close Kaunas is to them.

I invite you to take advantage of the rich program and spend your time meaningfully exploring the lands between the North and Mediterranean seas. I have no doubt that it will inspire interesting trips, more detailed interest or even encourage learning a new language”, said Kaunas Vice Mayor Mantas Jurgutis.

The month of Francophonie will be announced by musical sounds – on the first day of spring, a free concert “French Impressions” will be held at the National MKČiurlionis Art Museum. Those gathered to listen to the sound of flute and piano will be invited to attend the lecture “Born in Kaunas: the 120th anniversary of the birth of the French pianist Vlad Perlemuter”.

The program will be complemented by the international scientific conference “Culture and Politics of the Francophone World”. Professionals, scientists and artists from various fields will share good experiences and knowledge and encourage the search for meaningful connections with French-speaking countries. These discussions will be a prelude to other, month-long meetings with academics, creators, writers, and photographers researching Francophone topics.

The immersive Canadian film “Respire” will be screened at the Romuva Cinema Center in Kaunas. Music lovers will be delighted by the performance of the French jazz virtuosos “Frédéric Borey Trio” at the “Teatro Club”. The cycle of events also includes more exciting meetings – a piano music festival at Jurgis Dobkevičius Pro-gymnasium in Kaunas, a concert “Café de Paris” organized by the KTU French Institute.

On the second floor of the Kaunas Akropolis, the exhibition of creative works of students of Kaunas general education schools “My Style of Francophonie” will be located. Another exhibition of schoolchildren’s works “Dreams of Paris” will be waiting on the III floor of the Kaunas Education Innovation Center.

April 1 The Francophonie month will be crowned with a cozy and warm performance by soloists Marie-Alix Garreau and Ilan Abu Baker from France together with the Kaunas Wind Instrument Orchestra “Ažuolynas”. It will be played in St. Kaunas. in the church of the Archangel Michael (Egula).
