The heiress of the French beauty group L’Oréal, Françoise Bettencourt Meyers, becomes the first woman to be worth more than US$100 billion.

Its value soared to US$100.2 billion (C$135 billion) on Thursday, according to the Bloomberg Index, while the company’s shares reached a record high since 1998.
Despite this exorbitant amount, Ms. Bettencourt’s fortune remains well below that of Bernard Arnault, French founder of the luxury group LVMH, who was in second place in the Bloomberg Billionaires Index on Wednesday evening, with a value of 179 billion US$ (CA$236 billion).
Ms. Bettencourt, aged 70, is vice-chairman of the board of directors of L’Oréal, a world-renowned company worth 241 billion euros (C$351 billion).
As an only child, Françoise Bettencourt Meyers gets her fortune from her mother, Liliane Bettencourt, who died in 2017.
