Since October 6, 2020, the name of Kaiden Guhle has caused a lot of ink to flow in Montreal. That day, he was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in sixteenth place in the first round of the repechage.
Several experts speak of him as a mobile defender, who you can rely on defensively. I was just talking regarding it with my boyfriend Renaud Bourbonnais last night, but some even dared to compare him to Shea Weber…
We saw during the camp what the youngster was capable of. What I like regarding his game is that he never seems stressed and everything seems to go in slow motion for him. He distributes good checks, is very reliable in his zone and the youngster is able to contribute offensively following scoring three goals during the preseason calendar.
Expectations are still high for him and that doesn’t seem to bother him at all. He’s calm, and that’s what will make him a great hockey player if he’s able to keep his head in the next few years.
This year, Guhle will be taking his first steps in the NHL. He has three games of pro experience (he played briefly with the Rocket in 2020-2021 and was the club’s best player in defense) and will have the chance to add to his baggage, he who should start the year on the first pair with David Savard.
What can we expect from the youngster, then? I will let François Gagnon from the Réseau des Sports (RDS) answer my question. Here is what he had to say in the antechamber last night:
I stand by what I say: if it’s not the first game, I guarantee you (unless there are big trades) that at the end of the year, this guy is going to be the Canadian’s best defender! – Francois Gagnon
wow! Nothing less!
And, do you know what? I tend to agree with the reporter.
Kaiden Guhle has demonstrated that he has the “It factor” everywhere he has gone before. He has the makings of a captain, but his game on the ice is as much better than his leadership qualities.
I don’t think it’s gonna be ben long before he established himself as one of the best defensemen on the Bettman circuit, though. He has all the tools necessary to achieve this.
That’s why I can’t wait to see him go this year. I’ll be watching him closely and I have a feeling he might quickly become a crowd favorite if he continues to behave like this.
He will have Savard by his side to guide him, but it won’t be long before he leaves his nest and begins to fly on his own.

#Habs Martin St-Louis: “you can be really playing well & not producing – I don’t think that’s a slump. A slump is when you’re not producing & not playing well so for me with Slaf, like every player; results are part of the story, it’s not the whole story”
