François BRAUN, Minister of Health and Prevention, entrusts a mission to two qualified personalities to facilitate the digitization of pathological anatomy and cytology laboratories by supporting the investment of health establishments.
The digitization of anatomocytopathology has begun at European and international level. It allows a profound transformation of this specialty, which is the basis of diagnosis and therapeutic decision-making, while being at the heart of patient care, particularly in oncology.
France is developing a proactive and ambitious policy on the subject, and can capitalize on many initiatives already underway. An initial financial support of 30 million euros, distributed between 2022 and 2023, has been provided to healthcare establishments as part of the ten-year strategy to fight once morest cancer.
To go beyond and better organize this wave of digitization and deployment of artificial intelligence tools which is only in its infancy, the Minister wished to entrust a support mission to Doctor Solène Florence KAMMERER-JACQUET , pathologist at the University Hospital of Rennes, and Doctor Laurent TRELUYER, director of digital services at the Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris (APHP).
The ambition of this mission is to lay the foundations for a shared, multi-year national roadmap for digital pathology. It will be force of proposals for:
- Reinforce the financial and methodological support of healthcare establishments, in order to finalize the digital transition of laboratories and to initiate the large-scale deployment of artificial intelligence tools;
- Propose solutions to the issues of storage and secondary reuse of virtual slides;
- Structuring a network by capitalizing on the organizations already in place to consolidate and amplify the dynamic undertaken.
Supported by the services of the Directorate General for Healthcare (DGOS), and the Digital Health Delegation (DNS), the mission will deliver its conclusions at the end of October 2023.
