The Francofolies de La Rochelle are officially launched and festival-goers are happy to be back at this musical event they love so much. This Wednesday, July 12, nearly 15,000 spectators are amassed in front of the Jean-Louis Foulquier stage on the Saint-Jean d’Acre. For five days, they should be more than 150,000 to take advantage of the 84 artists from the official program. To inaugurate the festival, colorful artists: Adé, Izïa, M et Shaka Ponk.
Programming that mixes genres
Adé is the first to take the plunge. The former singer of the pop rock group Thérapie Taxi warms up the public before launching her hit “Know everything”. “It’s a good discovery, I didn’t know her at all”, admits Franck, a festival-goer who bought his ticket specifically to see Shaka Ponk. leaving the stage, she makes her audience jump and dance one last time before giving way to Izïa.
When Exit arrives on stage, his energy spreads from the pit to the bleachers. She sings, she dances, she runs, she hops, the daughter of Jacques Higelin does not give herself a second of respite and ends her concert in a sweat. In osmosis with the public, she connects her titles ranging from the best known “My heart”until “Dragon of metal” written for her father who died in 2018. This time, no political comments were made by the singer, while a few days ago one of her concerts was canceled following the controversy that follows her .
To continue to electrify the public, M and his musicians continued the evening. As usual, the “Machistador”, launches into a monumental walkregarding. Surrounded by thousands of people, he plays the guitar with one hand, with a glass of wine, or even a festival-goer. In the middle of his titles, Izïa joins himone of its musicians covers David Bowie and its pianist launches into a cover of Beat It by Micheal Jackson. The public is served with emotion and he pays it back to the artist, as soon as M launches the first notes of a song, he is accompanied by the festival-goers. We feel Matthieu Chedid moved to sing on a stage that bears the name of a person with whom he had a very strong relationship: Jean-Louis Foulquier, the creator of the Francofolies de La Rochelle.
Those who have the heavy task of closing the evening are also those who make a last round before an ecological retreat. Many festival-goers made the trip especially to Shaka Ponk and their electric guitars. Some from the Vendée, others from the Var or Ille et Vilaine. The group also rubs shoulders with the crowd, but from the first song. On the giant screen installed behind the singers, are projected pictures of monkeys but also of Emmanuel Macron embodying a puppeteer who directs people towards an abyss. With a cheering audience, they throw pogos, a dance in which festival-goers jump in a haphazard fashion as they jostle each other.
To everyone’s surprise, the artists are not the only ones to make a walkregarding because the 2nd Champions Cup trophy also had its moment of glory. Gérard Pont, director of the festival, welcomed players from Stade Rochelais to the stage who held up the trophy in front of an ecstatic crowd.
