The weather forecast was clear and it was raining on Saturday morning, but a few drops more or less were not going to spoil a long-awaited day for the family of the former president of the Consell, Francisco Camps, who was walking his daughter, Isa, down the aisle. The wedding was taking place in the church of San Juan de la Cruz, a temple that has hosted all the important events in the Camps Bas, including the wedding of his son Fran just two years ago. In fact, at the wedding of his brother with the allergist Ana Láinez, who also belongs to a well-known Valencian family, they gave the bouquet to Isa, following the tradition that one wedding leads to another.
The bride arrived at the church on the arm of her father and godfather, Francisco Camps. She was able to walk the few metres between her home and the church, thanks to a small respite from the rain. Wearing a dress that belonged to the family and adapted by the designer Lila Albanozzo, and an original bouquet of blue hydrangeas, she made her entrance a few minutes after the scheduled time. The groom was waiting for her there, surrounded by guests. Although they had gathered more than 400 people, they wanted it to be a very family-oriented wedding, made up mostly of close people and friends and just a few political figures.
The journalist Carlos Herrera was seen there with his partner, the former president of the Consell Jurídic Consultiu Vicente Garrido and his wife, Begoña Mortes, close friends of the Camps couple, the former president of Feria Valencia Alberto Catalá, or the lawyer Pablo Delgado. Also the former councillors Trini Miró, Paula Sánchez de León and Belén Juste, and the former councillor and current general director of the IVO, Manu Llombart. The former councillor of Infrastructure Mario Flores or Adolfo Suárez Illana were also on the list of attendees, as well as Alberto de Rosa, the hotel businessman José Luis Santos, Jorge Alonso, from the Alonso Group, the ambassador Gustavo Arístegui, the MEP Antonio López-Isturiz or the former director of Cacsa Henar Molinero.
The groom, Giovanni Bonavera, was “more excited than nervous” upon his arrival at the ceremony. When his now wife entered the temple, there was a great deal of applause from the curious people who had gathered outside to see the best kept secret: the bride’s dress.
Isa Camps and Giovanni Bonavera met in the European Parliament, where they both work for the European People’s Party. In fact, they share legal training and speak several languages. Camps’ daughter has been working in Brussels since 2018, first as an intern, then as an advisor, after having studied Law at the University of Valencia and having completed several master’s degrees. In Giovanni’s case, he arrived in Brussels just two months after Isa did. A graduate of the Università degli Studi di Genova, he has a past episode linked to Spain, as he participated in an Erasmus programme at the University of León during his law degree.
Living in Brussels and working in such a cosmopolitan environment as the European Parliament meant that many young people from different parts of Europe were invited to the wedding, especially from Italy, since the groom’s family is from Genoa. Having arrived in Valencia in stages over the last few days, on Friday night they were able to enjoy a pre-wedding on the terrace of the Only You hotel.
The event was held at the Palau de les Arts, one of the buildings in the City of Arts and Sciences complex that was inaugurated during Francisco Camps’ term as head of the Consell. The menu was served by Gourmet Catering and Events, a company that has just received national recognition.
The former president of the Consell, Francisco Camps, expressed his pride at being able to accompany his daughter to the altar and act as godfather, as his wife, Isabel Bas, had done with Fran, the couple’s eldest son, who became grandparents a year ago.
