During his first trial, the jury convicted him of murder for the first shooting and assassination for the second. A judgment then overturned by the Court of Cassation. Today, the Namur Assize Court therefore ruled. There was no premeditation during the second shooting. Francis Vandy was convicted of murder twice. During its deliberation, the jury accepted the analysis of the Court of Cassation according to which the short period of time between the two shots demonstrated that there was no premeditation. This therefore excludes the qualification of assassination.
In his pleading, Me Charles, Francis Vandy’s lawyer, pleaded two mitigating circumstances. On the one hand, there is “a context linked to the facts“according to the lawyer. In its judgment delivered Friday, the court took into account the extreme seriousness of the facts, which caused the violent death of two men, and the consequences for the victims’ families.
