The candidate for the Vice Presidency for the Historical Pact, Francia Márquez, was this Saturday in the Plaza de los Periodistas in Bogotá making his campaign closing when she had to be protected by her security scheme following being targeted with a green laser from the other end of the dais.
Through videos that spread quickly on social networks, it was evident the moment in which Márquez had to finish his speech and leave the stage covered by protective shields.
Also read:
Márquez was speaking regarding the violence in Colombia, when the laser was pointed at her head. Immediately, one of the men from her security scheme covered her with a shield and before the movement of the laser, Gustavo Petro’s vice-presidential formula was covered in its entirety.
Faced with this reaction, Francia Márquez expressed “this moment we are going through, where we cannot express ourselves publicly, is what we promise to change”.
Adding in a broken voice, “thank you my people, We are going to change that violence, however long it may last, whatever it may cost. We are going to liberate our people, our country.”
Finally, she was emphatic in mentioning that she wants to be the vice president of Colombia and that Gustavo Petro be president. After this, was taken off stage.
The people who were at the event rejected what happened and pointed out that the laser light was coming from one of the buildings in the area.
During the commemoration of #DiaDeLaAfrocolombianidad, they wanted to intimidate me by pointing a laser at me from a nearby building. They will not shut us up! Our fight is and has always been once morest all types of violence that seek to instill fear in us.
