France’s far-right party will back the government’s immigration bill

Thus, the probability that this law will be passed in the parliament has increased significantly.

“We can celebrate ideological progress, an ideological victory even for “National Unification”, because it is now enshrined in law as a national priority,” said M. Le Pen, who ran for president three times.

Her party has previously said it would vote against the bill or abstain.

Ms Le Pen, who currently leads the RN parliamentary group but is expected to seek the presidency again in 2027, described the legislation as a tightening of immigration conditions.

Her statement came after a panel of upper house senators and lower house National Assembly members agreed on a new text for the bill, which was rejected without debate in the National Assembly last week. This dealt a big blow to Macron.

“Parliament has reached an agreement on immigration [įstatymo] text,” wrote the Minister of the Interior Gerald Darmanin on the X social network.

The legislation is expected to be approved by the Senate on Tuesday evening and then by the National Assembly.

In addition to “National Unification” and the centrists gathered by E. Macron’s party “Rebirth” (Renaissance), the right-wing Republicans will also support the bill.

The left is reacting with horror at the prospect of the legislation, with Boris Vallaud, the leader of Socialist lawmakers in the National Assembly, calling it an embarrassing moment for the government.
