La France Insoumise (Lfi) has presented a motion for a resolution to initiate proceedings to impeach French President Emmanuel Macron due to the political impasse resulting from the failure to appoint a new prime minister. The announcement was made by Lfi group leader in the National Assembly, Mathilde Panot, who explained that a copy of the resolution “was sent today to parliamentarians to collect their signatures.”

On ‘X’, Panot wrote that “Macron refuses to submit to the vote of the people, so we must remove him”. The resolution stresses that “the refusal of President Emmanuel Macron to appoint a prime minister indicated by the coalition that dominated the legislative elections” represents “an unprecedented case in the history of our last two Republics”. The reference is to Macron’s refusal to assign Lucie Castets, candidate for prime minister of the left-wing coalition New Popular Front (NFP), the task of forming a new government in France. “The National Assembly, like the Senate, can and must defend democracy in the face of the authoritarian temptations of the President of the Republic”, continues the petition, as reported by ‘Le Monde’.
