Nantes: Protests all over France following traffic police shot dead a seventeen-year-old driver following stopping his car for allegedly violating traffic rules. Nayel M, an Algerian, was killed. The policeman who shot him was taken into custody.

The protests turned violent following the police lied regarding the circumstances leading to the shooting. French men’s football team captain Kylian Mbappe, actor Omar Sy and many others came forward once morest the police. Protesters torched around 40 cars on Tuesday night. 24 policemen were injured. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said 31 people were arrested.

Nayel was shot dead by two traffic policemen when they stopped their car at 8:30 local time on Tuesday. The policeman said that he shot Nayel because he was trying to drive a car at him.

However, the footage which revealed that it was a hoax was later circulated on social media. The news agency AFP said that the footage is real. Confirmed. In the scene, two policemen are standing near the stopped car. A man pointed a gun at the driver. You can also hear that ‘a bullet will pierce your head’. As the car moved forward, the policeman opened fire from nearby. The car moved a few meters and hit the barrier in front of it. Nayel died soon following. One of the two people in the car passed out. The other, a teenager, was taken into custody and released.

After the incident, people protested in and around Nantes. Police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd. In view of the protest, more than 2,000 policemen were deployed in the city.

The Home Minister said the 38-year-old policeman arrested in Nayel’s murder case would be fired if found guilty. French President Emmanuel Macron said the policeman’s actions were unforgivable. The legal driving age in France is 18.
