Two girls aged 5 and 11 were slightly injured today in a knife attack near their school in Souffelwegersheim, eastern France, AFP reported, citing sources.
According to police, the 11-year-old girl was stabbed in front of the school, while the other was attacked with a knife in a nearby square. Having suffered “superficial injuries” they were taken to hospital. The perpetrator, 28 years old, was arrested.
The school management cordoned off the building and the children remained in their classrooms. In front of the school, dozens of parents waited patiently while fire engines and law enforcement were deployed. Arriving at the school, the director of the prefect’s office, Jean-Baptiste Peyrat, wanted to reassure the parents who had gathered in front of the site: “You will be able to take your children slowly. There is no other danger,” he assured.
