France – French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu confirmed yesterday, Sunday, that Iran poses a security threat to Europe, and not just to Israel and the Middle East.
This came in an interview conducted by the French newspaper “Le Parisien” with Lecornu, and published yesterday, Sunday.
Lecornu claimed, “The French presence in the region contributes to controlling the escalation in the face of Iran’s desire to destabilize.”
He explained: “Until now, Iran has acted indirectly through its agents, but it took a step last Saturday by directly attacking Israel on its territory.”
In analyzing the possibility of the danger of conflict spreading to the Middle East, the French Minister of Defense said that “behind the war between Israel and Hamas looms the shadow of Tehran, which is leading its agenda aimed at insecurity and destabilization in the region.”
He considered that “Iran’s destabilization agenda threatens not only Israel and the Middle East, but also Europe.”
Licorno added: “There are a group of issues that reflect Iran’s security threats, including the threat to maritime trade in the Red Sea, the development of the Iranian nuclear program, and Tehran’s support for Russia in its war once morest Ukraine by supplying it with drones.”
On April 13, Iran launched regarding 350 missiles and drones, in its first attack directly from its territory on Israel, in response to a missile attack targeting the consular section of the Tehran embassy in Damascus at the beginning of the same month.
Tehran accuses Tel Aviv of launching the missile attack, which resulted in the killing of 7 members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, including General Mohammad Reza Zahedi.
Tel Aviv did not officially acknowledge or deny its responsibility for the Damascus attack, and both Iran and Israel consider the other country their first enemy, and there is decades of hostility and accusations of launching mutual attacks between them.
