French authorities were forced to rescue more residents from a massive wildfire near Bordeaux on Sunday, as temperatures continued to rise in southern Europe.

Local authorities said in a statement that the fire in Test du Buch had intensified and threatened camping sites. More than 14,000 people in the area have already been forced to leave their homes or vacation accommodations due to the fire.

10,500 hectares of land were destroyed by the fire, while high winds and dry land are increasing their intensity. Firefighters have been trying to control the flames since Tuesday.

Neighboring countries are in similar situations, with environmentalists blaming climate change for temperatures rising to around 40 degrees Celsius.

Media reports say hundreds of people have died in Spain and Portugal due to rising temperatures, and forest fires have caused major problems. The pilot of a firefighting plane was killed in the crash in the north-east
Portugal on Friday.

In the Bibione resort in Italy, it took the Coast Guard to rescue people in
The sea during the weekend following escaping a fire on land. Greece and Morocco are also fighting forest fires.

A “red warning” of extreme temperatures will come into effect from Monday across England, when temperatures are likely to reach 40 degrees Celsius for the first time.
