An Italian close to the Camorra working as a chef under a false identity was arrested on Tuesday in Fréjus, in the south-east of France, under a European arrest warrant.
End of the run for Antonio Cuozzo Nasti, an Italian close to the Camorra, a mafia organization in the Naples region. This 56-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in Fréjus, at the request of Italian justice for “the execution of a prison sentence pronounced in 2013 for acts of theft, concealment, possession and illegal carrying of weapons and violation of special surveillance measures committed in June 2012 in Italy”, specified the general prosecutor’s office of Aix-en-Provence.
According to the regional daily Nice Matin, which revealed the case, the man was staying under a false identity on the Côte d’Azur, where he was chef in a five-star hotel-restaurant in Saint-Raphaël, near Fréjus.
He was placed in detention following his referral to the public prosecutor’s office. The investigating chamber is due to rule on Wednesday followingnoon on his surrender to the Italian judicial authorities.
