The accident happened around 1 p.m. on Saturday in the commune of La Cluse-et-Mijoux, near Pontarlier in the Doubs. According to initial findings, a brake failure on the “Coni’Fer” museum railway is said to be the cause of the accident.
Two wagons with a total of around 30 passengers collided with the steam locomotive. This was reported by the regional broadcaster France 3 with reference to local emergency services. Eleven people were injured in the accident and had to be taken to hospital. Including a teenager who had suffered a severe blow to the head, like “Ballast Republican” writes.
A police investigation was opened to determine the cause of the accident. The “Coni’Fer” runs between Pontarlier in the French region of Burgundy-Franche-Comté and Vallorbe in Switzerland. (SDA/gin)
