Despite warnings from global health authorities in the face of the resurgence of the MPO epidemic, France does not recommend travelers to at-risk countries to be vaccinated in advance unless they themselves are at risk.
French health authorities clarified on Tuesday, September 2, that you do not need to get the MPOX vaccine if you travel to one of the countries where the disease is actively spreading, unless you belong to a high-risk group.
Director-General of Health Grégory Emery declared at a press conference on risk management related to MPOX (formerly known as monkeypox) that “for travelers to these countries (…) There is no need to get vaccinated”.

The comments come as MPOX 2022 once again becomes an issue of international concern two years after its global popularity.
Multiple epidemics are currently prevalent in Central Africa, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). They are driven by different versions of the strain that caused the 2022 outbreak.
This is caused by “clade 2”, which is still spreading quietly in many countries, including France. The epidemic in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, caused by clade 1, has killed hundreds of children.
But the situation becomes more complicated because a new version of clade 1, variant 1b, has emerged in the Democratic Republic of Congo and appears to be transmitted mainly through sexual contact among adults, as is the case with the 2022 epidemic.
Mpox: Why is monkeypox a concern for health authorities again?
Against this background, the French High Authority for Health (HAS) updated its recommendations on anti-acne vaccination this week.
It does not widen the range of people considered at risk and recommended for vaccination: this mainly involves men in same-sex relationships, male or female sex workers and anyone who works in a setting that specializes in sexual encounters.
Gregory Emery insisted that travelers “do not need to be vaccinated” outside of these risk categories, referring to forthcoming advice from the High Council for Public Health (HCSP).
The organization should remind people to follow relevant country precautions, such as eating wild animal meat. In fact, this can lead to contamination from animals to humans.
