the essentials For several weeks now, the viral circulation of Covid-19 has accelerated in France. An epidemic peak may well have been recorded by the health authorities.

This was one of the fears shared by health professionals at the end of 2023: following bronchiolitis, an influenza epidemic which would be added to increased viral circulation of Covid-19 in the country, with the behind risk of possible saturation of many French hospitals. This may not be the case: Covid-19 infections have undoubtedly passed a milestone these days. The epidemiological peak has possibly been reached in France.

According to the latest figures shared by Public Health France, the incidence rate would have stopped increasing, a sign that viral circulation is slowing down in the country. Health authorities now count 54.35 cases of contamination per 100,000 inhabitants in the country, between December 11 and 17. The indicator has been falling slightly for several days.

However, viral circulation remains very strong in the Grand Est region. Bas-Rhin still displays a particularly high incidence rate (more than 191 cases per 100,000 inhabitants). Moselle, Haut-Rhin and Meuse have an incidence rate greater than 160 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. In this territory, several departments have triggered the white plan: this system should allow hospitals to cancel non-urgent operations. Overall, the situation is improving in France: viral circulation is decreasing in no less than 35 departments of the country.
