FRANCE/PUCES: TOWARDS A NORMAL RECOVERY IN AUTOMOTIVE FACTORIES

PARIS (Archyde.com) – French car factories are expected to restart this year with more normal activity following the summer shutdown, spokespeople for Renault and Stellantis told Archyde.com, a stark contrast to the many production stoppages in late August 2021. caused by semiconductor shortages.

“A normal recovery is expected,” said a Renault spokeswoman.

France has around ten assembly sites for Renault and Stellantis cars and vans.

“Our French production sites have resumed their activity well following the summer holidays, still in a context of shortage of semiconductors involving daily management by our teams”, indicated for her part a spokesperson for the former -PSA.

When publishing its half-year results at the end of July, Stellantis said it expected a normalization of semiconductor supplies by 2023, while specifying that this development would be slow.

“Three weeks of shutdown this summer have allowed us to replenish our parts and all terminal sites have resumed more or less normally,” said a union source from the Franco-Italian-American group. “But that doesn’t mean we’re completely immune to disruption.”

Parts shortages contributed to a further fall in new car registrations in France in July, by 7.1%, giving the market a fall of 15.3% over the first seven months of the year.
