A Guinean couple was sentenced this week by the criminal court of Orléans (Loiret) in France, for “theft, receiving stolen goods and money laundering”. This case dates back to between 2019 and 2020, where the two defendants stole €273,131 worth of perfumes which they resold in a store in Conakry.

According to the newspaper “La République du center” cited by the West of France, the 54-year-old man allegedly stole perfumes from the Geodis company where he worked, while his wife, prosecuted for receiving stolen goods and money laundering, was in charge of sales. The husband would have admitted the facts unlike his wife, aged 41.

During a search of their home, as well as in a box (store) which belonged to them, the police found 710 luxury perfumes and also discovered four cars, as well as electronic equipment. Four other cars had already been shipped to Guinea and €80,000 were sent to Africa, adds the media.

The couple was also accused of having built a house in Conakry, as well as a shop in which they sold these stolen perfumes.

The defendants appeared for the first time in court on December 12, 2023 before the verdict fell on Thursday January 11, 2024.

The man named Thierno was sentenced to 24 months in prison, 12 of which were suspended. His prison sentence will be reduced to home detention. As for his wife, she was sentenced to 12 months in prison. The couple must also jointly pay thousands of euros in fines.
