Fractured Lives: A Desolate Stretch of Road Claims Another Victim

A young truck driver lost his life after being thrown from his vehicle during a violent off-road accident on Wednesday morning in Estrie.

The tragedy occurred around 9:20 a.m., on Chemin Nicholas-Austin, in Bolton-Est, a municipality located about twenty kilometers from Magog.

According to authorities, the 29-year-old trucker first left the road, before ending up in a ditch, where he hit a culvert.

It was during this last impact that the driver of the dump truck was ejected from his vehicle.

The dump truck then rolled over, then crashed into the van of an employee who was carrying out work along the road in this area.

Emergency services found the ejected driver under a metal plate on the ground.

“He remained stuck for a while under debris before being extricated,” said Sergeant Louis-Philippe Ruel, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.

The truck driver, originally from Saint-Alphonse-de-Granby, was rushed to hospital, where he was unfortunately pronounced dead.

No one else was injured during the events.

A specialist collision scene investigator was dispatched to the scene to try to establish the cause and circumstances of the accident.
