My welcome to “El. Venizelos” when I arrived from Albania was touching, stressed Fredis Beleris in an interview he gave on the ERTnews show “Weekend from 6”. “Of course I was welcomed by the prime minister, this makes me proud and fills me with responsibility to respond to my work” he pointed out. “In Brussels everyone had a good talk and facilitated my presence there,” he said at another point.
“There is a request that I be released from prison with 2/3 of the sentence, like every prisoner in Albania, I have served 2/3, there is a high possibility that the Albanian court will decide to let me out, otherwise in mid-October when the sentence ends,” he explained regarding what will happen from now on.
I consider that the permission given to me is a de-escalation move, but I don’t know the continuation, Mr. Beleris emphasized, among other things.
“My priorities are to learn the responsibilities of an MEP, I will deal with shedding light on the problems faced by the members of the Greek ethnic minority, but I want to deal with all the issues concerning our homeland”, he pointed out.
It was never my goal to become a politician in Greece, Mr. Beleris said, among other things. “Unfortunately these coups forced us to have an answer. I think the answer was the most appropriate. An issue that the Albanian authorities wanted to make bilateral with his move, the prime minister made it European, so no one can hide anymore. Europe without respecting the rule of law, the right to elect and be elected, the presumption of innocence cannot exist”.
